Goodwill ROCKS!
I am not ashamed of thrift stores or garage sales. It is one of the best ways to save money. Lil Man and I got to spend the day with my Dad last week and we hit up the local Goodwill. We had a great time! Well, lil man sure did. He made out like a bandit.
He got a Radio Flyer fold up tricycle in great condition for $5. I've seen these at the store for like $40. He is absolutely thrilled with his new wheels!
We also found this fully stocked Little Tikes workshop for $5! Now he has his own spot in the garage to work in with Daddy!
Last, I found him the most adorable Halloween costume. I was originally going to make his costume but, he really like the one we found and so did I. I will post pics of it later. So, hit up your local thrift shop and see what great things you can find!

IGA Meat Sale
I have slowly worked myself into freezer cooking. I started out with little things like chopped onions and peppers. Now, I'm doing main courses. Yesterday, lil man and I went to IGA. This is his fav place to shop because he gets to drive the car at the front of the cart plus, the cashiers always give him a sucker. They were having their family pack meat sale. This is my fav sale! Here's a run down of what I bought;
Hamburger 8lbs- It was on sale for $2.49/lb but, I got there early and got the reduced price meat for $1.99/lb = $15.52
Pork Blade Steaks - $3.76
Beef Chuck Pot Roast (2)- $8.48
Pork Boneless Ribs- $8.26
Pillsbury Biscuits 10/$10- I bought 6 and used 2 $0.30MCs, making them $0.90 per tube
Parkay Stick Margarine 10/$10- I bought 2 and used a $1.00MC, making them $0.50 each
Hamburger Helper 10/$10- I bought 8 and used 2 $0.80 off 4 MCs, making them $0.80 per box
I haven't bought Hamburger Helper in a long time but my husband likes to make it when he cooks so, if I get a night off of cooking I won't complain!
I spent a total of $47.32 According to the receipt I saved $17.90 or 27%. But, they didn't include the sale meat into that so, I saved more than that!

Walgreens, Target
This week by far has been the most frustrating week I have ever had with couponing!!! Let me explain. My plan for Walgreens was A+ worthy until I went to the blasted store! Monday we had to take my car to the shop in a different town so, I decided to hit up their Walgreens and CVS. CVS was good. I spent $25 and got $10 back in ECB. Then, on to Walgreens. I looked everywhere for their Zest body wash. They didn't carry it at all. So, I'm a little confused as to why it's advertised but they don't even carry it on a normal basis? So, I found everything else. I got to the register and did Transaction #1. I was suppose to get $3RR back and I didn't. When I asked she said, "Oh, well it's not working." So, I lost $3!!!! I was so mad. I didn't buy anything else and we left. Then, on Wednesday I ended up going to 4 Walgreens to find the items I needed! Talk about ridiculous. Then, they have the nerve to limit the transactions to 2 even if you go to the back of the line and there's nobody there! My husband had to go in and finish getting the stuff I needed because they refused to check me out when there were no other customers! Awful, Awful, Awful!!!

Walgreens, County Market, Target, etc
Today my friend and I went shopping in Urbana. We take turns driving. Not only do we save on gas but, we have a great time together. Our kiddos are best buds too!
First stop was Meijer. I didn't need anything there but, I received my coupon in the mail for a FREE Suave Professional Coupon valued at $3.00! So, I bought the new Suave Dry Shampoo. It was $2.79 on sale and I only paid $0.24 for tax! The cashier's response was, "Well, I guess you can't beat free." I just smiled and said, "You are so right about that."
Second, was County Market.
Kraft BBQ Sauce on sale for $0.79 x2 plus it had a peelie for $2.00 off of Kool-Aid or Country Time Lemonade
Johnsonville Brats $2.88 x2 with Penny Pincher Coupon
Strawberries 4lb on sale for $3.96 or $0.99/lb Freezer jam time!
Prairie Farms Lowfat Yogurt on sale for $0.33 I had 2 coupons for buy 2 get 1 free so I bought 6 yogurts
Country Time Lemonade $3.19- $2MC
Milk x2 gallons On Wed milk is $2.19 per gallon. County Market also tracks the number of gallons you purchase with your Max Card. After you buy 9 gallons you get the 10th free. Today was my lucky day as I got 1 for free! Another note about milk is I read a great article on the site; http://www.moneysavingmom.com/. The family was saving a few hundred dollars a year by buying whole milk and diluting it with water by themselves. I had never thought of doing this before. Plus they stock up and freeze it when they find it at the lowest price. So, we are giving it a try. No complaints so far!
Total Spent: $16.39 Total Saved: $22.96 or 59%
Walgreens:
Transaction 1: Cottonelle 12 roll Toilet Paper on sale 2/$10 get $3RR
$10- $2 SC - $1 MC= $7oop
Hershey's Chocolate Bar on sale $0.49 (This was a filler so I could use 3 coupons)
Total Spent: $8.41 Total Saved: $3.40 got $3RR
Transaction 2: GUM Eez Thru Flossers $2.00 get $2RR
Hershey's Chocolate Bar $0.49 x 2 (We make smores when we have bonfires)
I used the $3RR from transaction 1 and spent $0.77 and saved: $5.00
Transaction 3: Colgate Toothbrushes 2/$5 get $1RR I had 2MC for $1 off each
Reese's PB Cup $0.49
Total Spent: $1.97 Total Saved: $7.38
In hindsight I should have switched Transaction 1 and 2. If I would have bought the flossers first I would have spent $2 +tax and got the $2RR. I wouldn't have had to have any fillers. Then, I would have bought the TP + 2 fillers and would've spent: $7 and got $3RR back. Last the toothbrushes and Reese's and would have spent: $0.49 + tax and got the $1RR. I am still learning!!!
I spent $11.15 and could have spent: $10ish Still, I essentially only paid for the toilet paper and got the rest of it for free. That's another way to look at it. $11.15 is still way better than paying $26.93.
Target:
My husband has a sensitive face and can only use Mach 3 razors. Thank goodness there are always good coupons for the expensive little boogers! Target had 3 packs on sale for $6.49. I happened to have 2 MC for buy 1 get 1 FREE. So, he bought 4 packs.
Aquafresh kid's training toothbrush with coupons for $0.49
We had a $5 gift card from buying Huggies there last week.
He spent a total of: $10.83 He saved: $19.48
So, the end result is I got $102.13 worth of essentials for $38.37. Coupons and sales fliers really do pay off!

Shopping
I took a little break from shopping. I have enough hygiene items stock piled to last us a while. My husband has been joking about waiting to find toothpaste packed in his lunch box. I told him if all else fails we will at least have clean teeth. Honestly, I haven't been too impressed with the sales at Walgreens and CVS lately. I have been keeping my eye out though. Today I did a big shopping trip.
I started out at Aldis because we needed ground turkey. It's $1.39/lb there so that's where I get it. I also needed some frozen corn and peas. Chips were also cheaper than the sale price at County Market. I spent $14.80 and got; 3lbs of corn, 3lbs peas, 3lbs ground turkey, box of graham crackers (it's smore season), 2 bags of chips, and a bag of sweet potato fries. I am totally addicted to the fries!

Old Orchard Juice 64oz on sale for $1.28 - $1MC = $0.28!

Walgreens and CVS
I wasn't a big shopper at either of these places until I attended Misty's coupon class. By the way Misty is still holding classes. You can check out her blog at http://www.thefrugalfamily.blogspot.com/ for the schedule and more information. What I really like about these stores is their Register Rewards and Extra Care Bucks. I can also plan 3 weeks ahead for these stores. The websites: http://www.iheartwags.com/ and http://www.iheartcvs.com/ have the ads up to 3 weeks in advance. If you go to the actual store sites you can sign up for e-mail updates. The websites also have printable coupons. I didn't find too much for CVS but there were several things in the Walgreens ad;
General Mills Cereal $1.99 You can always find coupons for these at http://www.coupons.com/ or go to http://www.couponmom.com/ for even more coupons and deals lists.
Gatorade 32oz $0.69 limit 10. My husband works outside in the spring and summer so this is a good stock up price.
Reynolds wrap aluminum foil 25sq ft and wax paper 75 sq ft. for $0.89 limit 3
Ajax Dish Soap $0.89 - $0.50 MC= $0.39 I now get dishsoap either for free or for change with coupons
Duracell Batteries $2.99 I have $1 and $0.75MC for these
Dial Nutriskin Lotion 21oz. $4.99-$1.00MC= $3.99 out of pocket then get $3 Register Rewards back. It's like getting it for $0.99 I can afford to pamper myself with the good stuff at this price!
Pantyhose $0.79 limit 3
Irish Spring Deodorant 2/$6 - $2MC= 2/$4 out of pocket then get $4 Register Rewards back. After Register Rewards it's FREE!
Blistex and Chapstick $0.99- $0.35 MC= $0.64
Aussie Hair Products $2.99 - $1 MC= $1.99 out of pocket then get $1 Register Rewards back. That makes it $0.99!
Gillette Body Wash Buy 1 Get 1 50% off. I have 2 $2 off MC and 2 bogo free MC for this so I'll see what the price is.
These are just the deals I will be seeking. Check out the ads for more deals.

Schnucks
The Schnucks ad starts on Wednesday or Thursday of the week. They do double coupons up to $0.40 every day. I have honestly never shopped there. 3 things interested me in their ad this week;
Split chicken breast $0.99/lb
Honey Bunches of Oats $1.77 (If they have the Raisin Medley there is $1 MC which would make it $0.77!)
Dr. Pepper (2-liter) $0.87 (I really LOVE Dr. Pepper and this is a really good deal!)

Dr. Pepper (2-liter) $0.87 (I really LOVE Dr. Pepper and this is a really good deal!)
IGA
I wasn't too impressed with the IGA ad for this next week. I am not brand loyal so, if I can't get it cheaper than Aldi I don't buy it. IGA is having their Spring coupon event. I tried gettings some manufacturer coupons to go along with the store coupons. If you don't know how to do that just type what you want into google.
For example, Kelloggs Cereal Store coupon is 2/$3. Right now if you sign up at http://www.kelloggs.com/ you can get about $5 in free coupons. I got a $1MC off of 2 which makes the cereal 2/$2 or $1 a box. You really can't beat that price!
Malt O Meal Cereal $1.99-$0.75MC from the malt o meal website= $1.24
Westpac frozen Veggies 4/$3 or $0.75 per bag. This is great if you are buying frozen green beans. At Aldis the other frozen veggies run about $0.69.
Jenny-O Turkey Breast from the deli $2.79 for the first lb. This is a good price for deli meat. A better option is to buy whole meat when it's at it's lowest price. Then, slice your own meat for sandwiches. By doing the work yourself you save a ton of money! Convenience foods cost more because they are well...convenient.
Most if not all brands have websites where you can sign up for promotions and coupons. It's really worth looking into. If you are worried about flooding your e-mail account with junk set up a seperate e-mail account for all of your advertisements, updates, promotion offers, etc.

Pamida
I received the Pamida ad yesterday. I usually don't find too much there. I'm not a regular Pamida shopper but, a few things caught my eye. They are having a double coupon event. They will double coupons up to and including $1. That means your $1 coupon becomes worth $2!!! This is really good. The event runs from Saturday, March 12-March 18. Here are a few deals that I thought were worth noting:
Puffs 56 count cubes for $0.88. I have 2 MC worth $0.50 off 2 boxes that will be worth $1 a piece. 4 boxes will cost $3.52 - $2MC= $1.52 for 4 boxes or $0.38 per box!
Olay Body Wash 2/$7. I have 2MC worth $1 ($2 when doubled)
2/$7- $4MC= 2/$3 or $1.50 per body wash. That is better than the Walgreens ad for next week!
Huggies Pull Ups Jumbo Pack $9.99 - $2MC= $7.99

County Market
County Market in Urbana is having weekly specials that are really good!!
Monday: Bananas $0.39/lb with a limit of 4lbs
Tuesday: Chicken leg quarters $0.49/lb
Wednesday: County Market brand Gallons of milk $1.99
These deals are not marked on the shelf at all. The price will be changed at the register. I don't know if all the County Markets are doing this. I just know that this store is. Also, another thing that I like at County Market besides the Penny Pincher Coupons is that for every 9 gallons of milk you purchase, you get the 10th one for FREE. I don't know about anyone else but, we are really big milk drinkers around here and we love this!

This week's shopping
This was a TERRIBLE week for deals! There was only one coupon insert in the paper too which was a bummer. On Monday, my husband and I got to spend the day together. He broke his glasses and we had to get into the eye doctor. So, he went shopping with me. It wasn't too exciting. We went to Aldis and Walgreens.
Walgreens:
1. Tampons $5.99- $1 (MC)- $2RR= $2.99 oop $5RR back
2. Head and Shoulders 2/$12- $2 (MC)- $5RR= $5oop $5RR back for my next trip
So, I am ready for some good deals next week!
